Rare Gibbs Civil War carbine, .52 caliber percussion. Less than 1000 manufactured. All original, metal overall is a dark aged grey with tones of brown mixing in. All markings are crisp and clear, dated 1863 on lockplate, clear eagle stamping as well. Very good+ bore, clean and shinny with distinct grooves. Stock overall is good, with expected age dings and bumps from handling. The outline remnants of two cartouches on the left buttstock are still visible. Saddle ring and bar present, as well as 2-leaf sight. Buttplate stamped "U.S.". Mechanics are very good. The Missouri Cavalry were issued 500 of these scarce carbines during the war.
