Exceedingly rare 18th century flintlock lock boot, made of deer hide. Rarely surviving or seldom encountered only in advanced collections (see: Newman & Kravic's COLLECTOR'S ILLUSTRATED ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION). The flintlock boot was a true personal item individually crafted from hide to fit over the a flintlock action offering protection from rain and snow. This rare period example was made from untanned deer hide with a natural bug shellac coating inside and out so as to maintain rigidity and improve water resistance. This rare relic of the past remains in unbelievably nice original condition, the inside surface even retaining sporadic remnants of deer hair imbedded in the shellac waterproofing. The boot measures approximately 11 ¾ inches in length, 4" high at lock area. A true rarity!
