.58 caliber U.S. pattern 1857 cartridge box and sling, complete. The leather is in very good condition overall with only light wear consistent with age. Attached to the outer front flap is a brass "US" oval cartridge box plate in very nice condition with light patina. The latch tab is an old stitched replacement, buckles are present. The inner flap is stamped "BAKER & McKINNEY / NY". Both tins are present. The sling is in fine pliable condition overall, some surface crazing to leather. Attached to the sling is the round brass eagle breast plate in good condition with a smooth even patina. Sling measures 20" from the box. The front bottom right corner is turned up, this was done during the period of use as it was common practice among union infantry to make it easier to open rather than finding the closure tab. This Civil War rig would be fine for display.
