DELEVAN BATES / 30 U. S. C. T.", ALL THERE, BUT HARD TO READ. INSIDE MIDDLE CANVAS COMPARTMENT HANDWRITTEN IN FADED INK, BUT VERY CLEAR "COL. BATES 30 U.S.C.T". INSIDE HAS 3-BILL COMPARTMENT, ANOTHER FLAPED COMPARTMENT, AND YET ANOTHER FOLD-OUT COMPARTMENT STILL RETAINING LID FLAP AND CLOSURE TAB.
ACCOMPANIED WITH SOME PAPERWORK ON COL. BATES WITH A PICTURE OF HIM IN UNIFORM, AND HISTORY OF THE 30TH U.S. COLORED TROOPS. DELEVAN BATES ENLISTED AS A 2ND LIEUTENANT 08/18/62, WAS PROMOTED 1ST LIEUTENANT 05/03/63, COLONEL 03/23/64, BRIG-GENERAL 07/30/64, AND MUSTERED OUT 12/10/65. COL. BATES WOULD HAVE HAD A COLORFUL BATTLE HISTORY WHILE COMMANDING THE 30TH U.S. COLORED TROOPS.
