Civil War identification badge, 3-leaf clover silver badge inscribed on front "CO. B / I. MILLS / 5TH VT. VET. VOL.". On the bottom stem is a musical treble clef. Ira Mills was a musician enlisting on 09/10/1861, being mustered out 06/29/1865. The 5th Vermont Infantry saw heavy action at Defense of Washington, Siege of Yorktown, Battles of Williamsburg, Garnett's & Golding's Farm, Savage Station, Maryland Campaign, Crampton's Gap, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Salem Church, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Cedar Creek, Petersburg and Appomattox Court House.
The badge is in excellent condition overall, about the diameter of a quarter, correct pin on reverse. Identification badges of musicians are uncommon.
